Asian Americans Rise and Civitech Launch the Largest-Ever Asian American Pacific Island Voter Registration Drive
Focus will be on the seven states most likely to decide the 2024 election: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin
SAN FRANCISCO. – Aug. 20, 2024 – Over 300,000 young Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) will receive targeted outreach during a historic voter registration drive to ensure Asian American voices are represented in the 2024 election. Executives from Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. are teaming up to register AAPI voters using sophisticated data analysis, channels like direct mail, text and email and impactful messaging that appeals to young voters.
AAPIs are the fastest growing voting block in America. According to Pew Research, 15 million Asian Americans will be eligible to vote in 2024, which is up 15 percent from 2020. Asian Americans can make up the margin of victory in seven states -that are critical to deciding the presidential election: Ariz., Ga., Mich., Nev., N.C., Pa. and Wis. In addition to the top seven states, the voter registration drive will include key congressional districts in Ala., Calif., Iowa, Neb., N.Y., Ore., and Va. where Asian Americans can also play a deciding role in local elections.
“We have registered over 1,000 young AAPI voters in Maricopa County, Ariz. The state came down to just 10,457 votes in the 2020 presidential election, making voter registration and turnout a key issue. We are looking to change those numbers in 2024 and Asian Americans can be the decisive voice in who will lead our country,” said Wendy Nguyen, co-founder and President of Asian Americans Rise. “With half of all Asian Americans reporting they have not been contacted by either party, it’s an important time for the AAPI community to demonstrate our political power.”
Over the next eight weeks, young AAPIs who are eligible to vote will be receiving voter registration forms in the mail with follow-up text messages and emails reminding them to return their form. By conveniently delivering eligible voters a simple method to quickly register, Asian Americans Rise and CiviTech are changing the demographics of the electorate this fall.
Over one-third of voters who didn’t vote in 2020 cite problems with registration, conflicting schedules, being out town, or forgetting to vote as reasons why. “We make it hard to vote in this country,” Nguyen continued. “Asian Americans Rise is committed to changing this.”
“We are excited to partner with Asian Americans Rise on this new voter registration initiative,” says Brendan Kelly of Civitech. “At Civitech, we’ve been working with mission-driven organizations to register thousands of voters. This exciting project combines Asian American Rise’s community knowledge with our data and direct mail capabilities to make an impact in 2024.”
